Political Prisoners in Iran Need Your Solidarity—Now
Let the Regime in Iran Know That the World Is Watching!
Four years after the death of Jina Mahsa Amini in the custody of the Islamic regime of Iran and the rise of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, thousands of protesters remain imprisoned. Some have been executed. Many others face execution, torture, and lengthy prison sentences.
The repression continues. Following the January 2026 protests, tens of thousands were reportedly arrested and at least 40,000 protesters were reportedly killed. Political prisoners and their families remain in grave danger.
During Woman, Life, Freedom, many of you stood with the people of Iran. Today, we urgently ask you to stand with them again.
The Situation Is Critical
People in Iran are caught between war and intensifying state repression. Political prisoners are particularly vulnerable. Many face the risk of dying in prison because of torture, inadequate medical care, overcrowding, and brutal detention conditions. Others face execution and the imminent threat of being put to death.
Reports received by the Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) indicate a sharp escalation in arrests and executions, with at least 260 political prisoners reportedly facing the death penalty.
While international attention is focused on the so-called negotiations between the US government and the Islamic regime, the regime in Iran is intensifying its repression—raiding homes, arresting protesters, restricting internet access, and attempting to silence dissent.
The regime is acting with increasing impunity, apparently confident that it will face no meaningful international consequences for its crimes against humanity.
Let the regime in Iran know that the world is watching—and that political prisoners are not alone.
We cannot allow political prisoners in Iran to disappear from international attention.
In August 2026, prominent activists published an open letter in The Guardian in solidarity with political prisoners in Iran. We welcome this important and much-needed initiative and call on organisations around the world to add their voices.
We Call on You to Act
On the fourth anniversary of Woman, Life, Freedom, we call on trade unions, student unions, women’s rights organisations, human rights and children’s rights organisations, lawyers, writers, academics, and all organisations committed to justice and freedom to stand with political prisoners and their families.
We ask you to issue a public statement demanding:
- The immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Iran.
- An immediate halt to executions and the abolition of the death penalty.
Raise this issue within your organisations. Mobilise your members. Contact elected representatives. Use your platforms.
Stand with the people of Iran.
Stand with political prisoners and their families.
Stand with Woman, Life, Freedom.
