RE: 20 June 2022, the International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran
I am writing to appeal for your support on the International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran on 20th June 2022. I would like to invite you to support thousands of political prisoners in Iran who are currently sitting in their cells awaiting their daily dose of torture as well as being deprived of medical treatment.
Hundreds of labour and women’s rights, children’s rights activists, artists, journalists, teachers, students, retirees, lawyers, members of religious and ethnic minorities, dual nationals, LGBTQ+ and many more are harassed, imprisoned and tortured; their “crimes” range from possessing a book, posting their views on Facebook, gathering to demand their rights and protesting against poverty, inflation and suppression. They are attacked for demanding their rights.
In the last 11 years, on 20th June, we have organised events to echo the voice of political prisoners and their families. In 2011, human rights and political organisations, unions, individuals, families of political prisoners and rights activists in 50 cities around the world all stood up as one, demanding an end to the brutality imposed on the people in Iran and the release of all political prisoners in Iran.
This year, on 20 June 2022, we would like to invite you to support the political prisoners and their families in Iran in any way possible. Some of the suggested ways to support include:
· Send an email/tweet to the Islamic regime to demand that the political prisoners must be provided with effective and immediate medical treatments.
· Send a letter to your government and ask them to pressure the Islamic regime in Iran to provide the political prisoners with medical care, and also to free all political prisoners immediately and unconditionally.
· Record and publish a short video clip and post it on social media to show your protest against the deprivation of political prisoners from medical treatment and to show your solidarity on the International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran. Please use the hashtag: #20JuneIran
· Hold/attend the protests. Please the attached leaflet.
