Supporting Ismail Abdi is supporting the honor of being a teacher! Ismail Abdi, along with some members of the Iran school board members, based on his commitment and responsibility as a teacher and relying on the twenty-seventh principle of the constitution, to protest against the inefficiency of the education system and the violation of the rights of educators as well as students, in civil and completely union based actions, has been participated in protesting gatherings. However, he has been charged with “interpreted charges against national security” and has been kept in prison since June 2015. This happened while the process of his trial and the manner in which he was imprisoned did not comply with any legal norms. Now, six years later, with a ten-year prison sentence (which in fact was) suspended in 2010-11, in a strange and unusual action, he is transferred and exiled from Evin Prison to another prison in which even the first and most obvious human, natural and citizenship rights of individuals are not considered or respected. As a matter of fact, the head of the Judiciary system, in accordance with the Article 1 of the Executive Instruction of the Article 477 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, has issued an order to review his verdict as the judge saw it in contrary to Islamic law. Therefore, according to the note of the article 9 from the executive instruction of the article 477، a retrial is appropriate of Mr. Abdi’s verdict, his sentence should be stopped immediately, and he should be released. The signatories of this letter, while announcing their full support for Ismail Abdi, are convinced deeply that in-depth and honest views of judges in this case will only lead to Mr. Abdi’s acquittal. They expect the Supreme Court of Iran to make a fair judgment in the presence of honourable and experienced judges. We, members of school board all over the country are requesting and will be satisfied only when there is an end to the oppression of Ismail Abdi and his family by issuing an acquittal, as well as a new order to prohibit him being persecuted in future.
