What happened in November 2019?
During the mass protests in November 2019 in Iran, demonstrators faced a deadly crackdown by security forces of the Revolutionary Guard of the Islamic regime. 1500 people were shot, thousands were wounded, and more than 8000 have been detained and brutally tortured, some sentenced to death or received lengthy jail sentences.
The government has threatened the detainees with long jail sentences and executions, and wounded detainees have been kept in prison without any medical attention. Security forces have also refused to return the bodies of the protesters who were shot dead in street protests, to their families; the families were banned from holding funerals. The execution of the Iranian champion wrestler Navid Afkari demonstrates how dangerous the situation is for detainees.
While the brutal Islamic regime in Iran uses every opportunity to suppress people and arrest and torture rights activists in Iran, people continue to protest against the regime by going on strike and rallying. People in Iran need your support. Their continued fight for freedom in Iran is a call to people around the world to stand up against the tyranny of the Islamic regime. To stand up for humanity!
On the first anniversary of this brutal crackdown of protesters, we are gathering to stand by the detainees of November 2019, the political prisoners and their families.
We continue to put pressure on the Islamic regime and to demand the release of all the detainees arrested in November 2019 and all political prisoners; to overturn the execution sentences, and to urge international communities and governments to hold the regime in Iran accountable for killing and torturing thousands of protesters.
