We need your urgent action
The families have been told that by this evening, 22:30 CET (Wednesday 29th July), they will either be executed!
The five young men were arrested in the protests in Dec 2017 and were sentenced to death. It is important to mention that the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic has approved the death sentences which means these men are in an immediate danger of being executed. The names of these five young men are: Mohammad Bastami, Mehdi Salehi Ghaleh Shahrokhi, Hadi Kiani, Majid Nazari Kondari and Abbas Mohammadi. Their ‘crime’ is participating in protests.
On the morning of 29 July 2020, the families and friends of the five prisoners gathered in front of Nikbakht Courthouse in the city of Isfahan and held placards that read “Do not execute” in Farsi. The prison director approached the families and those who participated in the gathering and threatened that the security forces will detain them if they continued to protest. He stated: “If you give an interview to a media or film the gathering, we will execute the five prisoners and we will arrest you too!” The families and friends of the prisoners ignored his threats and continued to hold the gathering. Government forces attacked the gathering, but families insisted and stated: “our loved ones are innocent and have done nothing wrong! Hold a public trial and let the media cover it so that everyone can see that our loved ones are innocent.”
Urgent actions must be taken! The risk of execution is serious. We ask you to help us save these five young men by taking a few minutes to send a protest letter via email or tweet, to demand the immediate stop of the execution sentences. Sample letter is provided.
