Similar to previous years, the Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) organised its 2020 annual event on 20th June. Ten years ago, CFPPI established 20th June as the international day in support of political prisoners in Iran and this was our 10th anniversary. We are proud to announce that we were able to bring together human rights defenders from around the world in support of political prisoners in Iran.
On Saturday 20 June 2020, CFPPI presented a five hours program in Farsi and English for the 10th anniversary of the international day in support of political prisoners in Iran. The event was broadcasted simultaneously on CFPPI social media and on a Farsi speaking TV channel (Kanal Jadid) which has many viewers in Iran and Europe.
The event included more than 50 messages of solidarity from unions, human rights organisations, human rights defenders, former and current political prisoners from Iran and other countries, and families of political prisoners from Canada, Europe, Syria, Latin America, and Iran.
Additionally, in this event there were presentations focused on the situation of jailed activists such as labour, teachers, students, women’s rights, environmental activists, dual citizens, prisoners who are deprived of medical attention and the survivors of 80s massacre in Iran and also the horrible condition of some prisons in Iran such as Qarchak and Fashafouye.
