June 20th: International day in support of political prisoners in Iran

June 20th is the International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran. “Free Them Now!” The Campaign to Free Jailed Workers in Iran joins this day of action and calls on all workers’ and human rights organizations to support this movement to free all jailed workers and political prisoners in Iran .

The number of political prisoners in Iran is unknown. But all evidence shows that their number amounts to thousands. Among them are activists like Mr Jafar Azim Zadeh the head of the Free Union of Workers of Iran, Ms Atena Daemi, a well known children and women’s rights activist and an activist against the capital punishment and also several teachers including Mr Esmail Abdi, Mr Mohammad Habibi, Ms Nahid Fathalian, Mohammad Ali Zahmatkesh, Yaser Amini Azar and Mr Mahmoud Beheshti and thousands of other political activists.

Free Them Now (FTN) is struggling for immediate and unconditional release of these activists, and calls on all trade unions and human rights organizations around the world to exert pressure on the Islamic Republic to help secure their release and for an end to persecution of workers activists and all political activists in Iran.

The terror and violence against workers in Iran must be stopped! Workers in Iran should be able to freely exercise their fundamental right to set up their own organizations, meet, assemble and protest as they wish, take strike action, organize and take part in rallies, etc., without fear of being arrested and thrown in jail. All jailed workers must be immediately and unconditionally freed!

-We condemn the Islamic regime of Iran for its persecution of worker activists and political dissidents.

– We demand the Cancellation of the all chargers against all worker’s activists, teachers, and political prisoners who have been charged for being “threat to national security”.

– We demand an end to securitizing Workers’, Teachers’ and other people’s activities by the government.

– We support the struggle of the workers and people of Iran for freedom, the right to organize and strike, and for welfare, equality, justice and a life of dignity.

-We call for the international political boycott and sanction of the regime of Iran by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and all world organizations.

– We call on all trade unions and human rights organizations around the world appalled by the horrific human rights abuse in Iran to support these demands.
