The lives of two political prisoners are in grave danger

Arjang Davoudi  and Houshang Rezaei

Help us save them

Mr. Arjang Davoudi, teacher, poet and writer has been in prison since 2003. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison. When he was arrested, one of his charges was speaking to a Canadian journalist who was working on a documentary that was called Forbidden Iran. This film was about the death of a Canadian citizen Zahra Kazemi in prison by the Iranian regime.

Arjan Davoudi is suffering from severe blood pressure and hypotension, severe weakness, headache, dizziness, low vision and other complications, and his health is deteriorating. Despite this, Arjang was rarely provided with a medical attention. In a show of protest to the prison’s poor condition and the ill-treatment he and other political prisoners have received, he went on hunger strike twice one of which was in July 2010. His wife, Nazanin Davoudi, has been under pressure from the authorities and was threatened not to publicize her husband’s case.

Mr. Davoudi wrote several letters of complaint to the head of Rajaee Shahr prison but each time he was subjected to further punishment and torture. According to his cell-mates, Arjhang Davoudi was charged with “ Moharebe”(an “Enemy of God”), which as a rule, is punishable by execution.

Mr. Houshang Rezaei was arrested in the spring of 2010 in the western part of Iran and he was transferred to the ward 209 in Evin prison. Houshang was sentenced to death in Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court. He was convicted on charges of being a member of a political party which is considered by the regime to be a Moharebeh (Enmity of God). Mr. Rezaei has been suffering from teeth and gum problems, but he was denied of a proper medical treatment by the prison officials.

According to their cell-mates, both Arjhang Davoudi and Houshang Rezaei were transferred to a solitary confinement in the ward 209 of the notorious Evin Prison in June 2012. No one has any news from their situation.

Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) expresses its great concern for the situation of the above two political prisoners. We call on all concerned individuals and organizations to demand the release of Arjhang Davoudi and Houshang Rezaei and to show their solidarity with the family of above political prisoners.
