Renowned jailed Iranian rapper in danger of execution
Save Toomaj Salehi!
ToomaJ Salehi is charged with “Corruption on earth” by the Islamic regime in Iran. The punishment for the charge is the death penalty. Toomaj has always been a vocal supporter of freedom of expression and against suppression. Being an advocate of freedom angered the heads of the Islamic regime and its Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC). He was therefore abducted, taken to prison, tortured and now planning to execute him. Toomaj needs us to stand up to the Islamic regime, one of the most dangerous regimes on earth, and stop his execution.
Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) urges the European government to summon the Islamic regime ambassadors and pressure them to halt all execution sentences, including Toomaj.
Toomaj Salehi, 33, is an Iranian rap artist. He is known for his songs criticising the Islamic regime for creating and maintaining poverty, suppression and injustice. Toomaj was first arrested in September 2021, and then released on bail. But he was constantly threatened to be taken to jail again. He was, once again, arrested in October 2022. This time his arrest was during the demonstrations and revolution of Woman, Life, Freedom, which swept the streets
of different cities across Iran, following the death of Mahsa Amini. Toomaj has been in solitary confinement and endured extreme violence and torture while being deprived of any medical treatment. According to his uncle, as a result of torture, Toomaj’s eyesight has been compromised due to being beaten in his head, his fingers and toes are broken under torture and he requires immediate medical treatment.
The Islamic regime and the IRGC are attempting to kill Toomaj to set an example and instil fear amongst the population to prevent them from demonstrating against the brutalities of the regime. However, people in Iran, especially in the recent protests, have demonstrated admirable courage to stand up to the tyranny of the Islamic regime. Toomaj is the voice of freedom and echoes the voice of millions of brave people in Iran.
