The Islamic regime in Iran opened fire on the protesters and injured and killed tens of them in Iran
The US government issued a visa for the murderous president of the regime to attend UN General Assembly!
The recent protests across Iran have started following the death of Mahsa Amini who died as a result of torture in the detention centre in Tehran. Mahsa Amini, a 22-years-old woman, was traveling with her family from the province of Kurdistan to Tehran to visit their relatives. She was then walking on the street with her brother when she was stopped by the regime’s Morality Police. Her brother was attacked and Mahsa was taken to the detention centre. It was there that she was beaten up which caused a severe head injury. She went into a coma and died as a result of her injuries in the hospital on 16 September.
Mahsa’s death sparked outrage amongst Iranians, and waves of protests started in the cities across Iran. Thousands of people attended Mahsa’s burial ceremony and many women removed their scarves to show their opposition to the regime’s compulsory hijab law. People in 24 cities across Kurdistan shut their shops and businesses on 19 September to show their protests against Mahsa’s murder by the Islamic regime. They also showed solidarity with Mahsa’s family. Since 16 September when Mahsa was murdered, many people have come to the street in cities across Iran to condemn the Islamic regime for murdering Mahsa Amini. People were chanting ‘Down with the Islamic regime’, opposing compulsory Hijab, and demanding justice for Mahsa. In several cities, women removed their scarves to show their protests. The protesters have been facing bullets, tear gas, and water cannons from the security forces. Tens of protesters have been arrested, many of them have been injured in several cities in Kurdistan province and at least four people were killed. According to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 220 people including a 10 years old girl were injured, 3 people were killed and at least 250 people were arrested. Protests are continuing.
People across the world also expressed their outrage and their protests on social media and the Persian hashtag #MahsaAmini has reached nearly 2 million on Twitter. Mahsa’s death, once again, highlights the brutality of the Islamic regime and its security forces who slaughters women on a daily basis. While the regime murders its citizens, the US, UN, and the EU have closed their eyes to the crime committed by the Islamic regime.
According to reports, in some of the cities in Kurdistan, businesses are on strike for the second day. Today, 20 September, the Islamic regime has started moving further security forces and riot police to the cities of Kurdistan and has started arresting more people.
Arresting and murdering Mahsa is the continuation of the recent attempts by the Islamic regimes to carry out further operations to arrest more women over the Hijab rules. Misogynist laws against women in Iran, including the Hijab rules and the punishment for not obeying them, are legal and the regime has special security forces to arrest and punish women for not fully covering their hair. In recent months, the regime has used further brutal forces to arrest women including dragging women on the street to police cars, insulting, attacking, and arresting them for opposing the Hijab law.
It is outrageous and scandalous that while women in Iran are being brutalised by the Islamic regime, the UN has accepted the regime as a member of the UN Women’s Right Commission! It is shameful that while Joe Biden’s government is well aware of the situation of women in Iran, and specifically the killing of Mahsa Amini, his government has still issued a visa for Ebrahim Raisi, the president of the Islamic regime, to enter the US and to speak in the UN General Assembly. Three organisations including CFPPI have already sent a letter to the UN and the Us Government urging them to not allow Ebrahim Raisi to enter the US. He is a murderer and has killed thousands of dissidents. He must be barred from entering the US and put on trial for crimes against humanity.
The Islamic regime in Iran must be expelled from the UN Women’s Rights Commission. Ebrahim Raisi, who is also internationally known for ordering the execution of thousands of political prisoners in Iran in 1988, must not be allowed to enter the US. Instead, he must be investigated for committing crimes against humanity. The international community must act now! Closing eyes on the crime committed by the Islamic regime is collaborating with the crime.
