The lives of four political activists (Peshmerga) are in danger in Iran

In mid-July 2022, four Peshmerga members of an opposition organisation, Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, were arrested by the security forces of the Islamic regime in Iran. Their names are Mohsen mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, HajirFaramarezi, and Wafa Azarbar. On July 27th, the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic regime made a bogus claim that these four activists are members of a “terrorist team sent to Iran by Israeli intelligent organisation, Mossad, to carry out explosions and sabotage”.

This type of fabricating cases against political prisoners is very common and often used by the Islamic regime to arrest and execute political activists. The bogus charge of “Cooperating and Communication with Israel”, which has been used more often recently by the Islamic regime, carries the punishment of the death penalty. The regime in Iran, intentionally, links these activists to Mossad by creating these baseless cases against them, paving the way for their execution or issuing long prison sentences against them.

These four political activists are not allowed to contact their families and the families do not know of their situations or their whereabouts. By keeping these families in the dark, they are being pressured by the regime not to speak up about their jailed children. Based on previous cases, without any doubt, these detainees are being severely tortured to pressure them to make forced confessions. The regime then uses forced confession to sentence each of these activists to either execution or a lengthy prison sentence. This is also another attempt by the Islamic regime to further increase the number of security forces and their presence within the province of Kurdistan in Iran, where these four activists are from, in order to confront upcoming protests.

We the three organisations, Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI), International Committee against Execution (ICAE), and Free Them Now- Campaign to free jailed workers in Iran (FTN); strongly condemn the detention of these four political activists, the fabricated criminal scenario against them by the Islamic regime, and demand their immediate and unconditional release.

We will not allow the Islamic regime to use the lives of these four political prisoners as a tool for the advancement of its oppressive and brutal policies.

We call on the UN Human Rights Council, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and all concerned individuals and organisations to stand firmly against the Islamic regime’s well-knowing strategy of using fabricated charges, under the national security pretext, against these jailed political activists, and to demand their immediate release.

You can help these political prisoners by sending a letter to the following addresses. The following sample letter is provided. Please see the link below for the letter from the wife of Pejman Fatehi, one of the detained Peshmerga:

We express our protest against the detention of the political activists and we are seriously concerned for their well-being and that the authorities intentionally withhold information from their families. We demand the immediate release of these political activists: Mohsen Maroufi, Pejman Fatehi, Hajir Faramarezi, and Wafa Azar.
