Ibrahim Raisi will officially start his position as the president of the Islamic regime in Iran on August 5th 2021. While Raisi is taking his official position, protests are taking place across Iran. Highlights of these protests are as follow:
- There are numerous protests in the southern province of Khuzestan in Iran over severe water shortages. These protests have been going on since 15 July 2021 and since then people from different cities across Iran have joined these protests. The security forces have started crackdown of these protests. According to reports received by CFPPI, they shot and killed more than 5 protestors and arrested more than 100. Security forces also raided civil activists’ houses and arrested a number of these activists.
- The protests in Khuzestan over water shortages attracted support from across Iran. In Tehran, more than 30 human rights and workers’ rights activists including Arash Sadeghi, Jafar Azimzadeh, Narges Mohamadi gathered in front of the Ministry of Interior to support people in Khuzestan. According to reports received by CFPPI, these activists were attacked, beaten up, detained for sometimes, and then released. Protests also took place in other major cities such as Tabriz and Isfahan. In Tehran, protestors gathered in metros and in main squares to support protests in Khuzestan and called on other people to join the protests across Iran. They chanted slogans against the regime saying: ” Down with the dictator “, ” Death to the Islamic Republic”.
- There has been strikes in Oil and Petrochemical industry in Iran since 19 June 2021 and the workers are demanding higher wages and better contractual conditions. These strikes have attracted support from labour unions across the world. Despite the dismissal of hundreds of strikers, the workers have continued their strikes and protests.
- The worker from Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Industrial Complex in Khuzestan also started their second wave of strike on 13 July and have also been supporting the protesters in Khuzestan. There are many more protests and strikes taking place been across Iran.
- Tens of political prisoners have sent statements from prison supporting the people of Khuzestan and workers’ strikes.
- Tens of artists, cartoonists, athletes in Iran have expressed their solidarity for the workers on strikes as well as the people of Khuzestan.
When you follow all the protests in cities across Iran, one message is loud and clear:
People in Iran do not want the Islamic regime and despite the brutal crackdown by the security forces of the Islamic regime, people exhibit such bravery and continue with their protest against the Islamic regime. They openly say that they do not want the Islamic regime, they are not scared of being killed by the security forces. They chant death to the Islamic Republic.
While numerous protests are taking place every day, the European Union, European Parliament, governments across the world refuse to support the people in Iran and by their silence, they support the murderous Islamic regime. These governments also refuse take responsibility and break their silence and political ties with the criminal regime in Iran. These International bodies and governments are still keeping themselves ‘ busy and preoccupied ‘ with so called the nuclear negotiations. They have closed their eyes to the crime against humanity committed by the Islamic regime and refuse to openly support the people and their on-going protests in Iran.
The only way to do something about the nuclear program of the Islamic regime is to support people in Iran to overthrow this regime. The existence of the Islamic regime is directly tied with their nuclear program. Getting rid of the Islamic regime is the only way.
These international organisations and governments must politically boycott the Islamic regime and their leaders must expel the Islamic regime’s delegates from the international organisations. These international bodies must shut down the regime’s embassies and expel the regime’s diplomats, stop all the negotiations, and demand the release of all political prisoners in Iran. They need to hold the regime accountable for 42 years of crime against humanity.
People in Iran need a strong international solidarity. People across the world must pressure their governments to boycott the Islamic regime in Iran and to stop legitimising the fascist regime in Iran.
