On this May Day

Demand the expulsion of the Islamic regime of Iran from the ILO for imprisoning and torturing labour rights activists

We are asking you to send a protest message to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to demand that the Islamic regime’s representatives are expelled for suppressing labour rights activists in Iran.

We also ask you to send a letter to your government and urge them to pressure the regime in Iran for persecuting and arresting labour rights activists

IN IRAN:

–        Workers are arrested and tortured for demanding their basic human rights.

–        Workers are arrested and flogged for going on strike.

–        Labour activists are harassed on a daily basis, arrested and given lengthy jail sentences, while their families are threatened and can be also arrested.

–        Labour activists are arrested for holding events on May Day.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in a number of infected prisoners, which is continuing to rise. While the rest of the world is practising social distancing, numbers of labour activists have been summoned to overcrowded prisons to serve their jail sentences.

Despite ongoing threats from the regime in Iran, labour activists have not stopped fighting for worker’s rights. We are witnessing an increasing number of protests, strikes and rallies in factories across Iran. Jailed labour activists and their families are under immense pressure from the regime to stop their activities. However, they continue their fight, and even issue statements from prison – calling on people and the international community to support the labour movement in their struggle against the regime. Labour activists need our continued support and solidarity.

On May Day, the International Workers Day, please write to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as well as your government and demand:

–        The expulsion of Islamic regime’s representatives from ILO.

–        Pressure on the Islamic regime to stop the crackdown on the May Day events.

–        Workers in Iran must be able to freely exercise their fundamental rights including to set up their own organisations, to organise and take part in rallies, assemblies and protests, and to organise strike actions.

–        The terror and violence against workers and their families in Iran must be stopped.

–        All jailed workers and teachers must be immediately and unconditionally released.

Please send your messages/tweets to:

ILO: @ILOACTRIV         SEED@ilo.or    &     To:  your government
