On the anniversary of summer 2009 demonstrations in Iran, show your solidarity with political prisoners in Iran
As we are approaching the first anniversary of the summer 2009 anti-government protests in Iran, the Islamic regime is attempting to create an atmosphere of fear among the people. On 9th May 2010 regime has executed five political prisoners: Farzad Kamangar, Ali Heydarian, Farhad Vakili, Shirin Alam-Houli and Mehdi Eslamian, which has provoked a series of protests both inside and outside of Iran, and also general strike in Iran. The Islamic regime is getting ready to repress the upcoming protests planned to commemorate the anniversary of 2009 uprising, and at the same time, people have confirmed that they’ll defy this repression by more protests.
20th of June 2009 was the day that Neda Agha–Soltan, a 27-year-old philosophy student, was shot to dead by the Islamic regime on the streets of Tehran; her death was captured on video by a bystander, and it was broadcasted to the world over the Internet. Since then, Neda Agha-Soltan has become a symbol of people struggle for freedom.
On the first anniversary of the protest, we call on all concerned organisations, and individuals to show their support on 20th of June 2010 by:
– Participating/ organising a protest in front of the Iranian embassy in your country in solidarity with people in Iran
– Sending a protest letter to your local government and demanding the shut down of the Islamic regime’s embassy, asking them to press the regime to stop torture, imprisonment and execution, and to release all political prisoners in Iran
Let the Islamic regime of Iran know that they are not just facing the protest and fight inside Iran; they are facing an international protest. Let the political prisoners and their families know that there is an international movement to support their cause.
